Richard Czekanski, PE, CME, BCEE, Senior Associate, recently presented an American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES) webinar where he discussed RVE’s Logan Township MUA (LTMUA) 0.5 MGD Water Reclamation Facility Expansion Project. RVE provided design engineering and material shop drawing review services for this project, which received the 2021 Excellence in Environmental Engineering and Science (E3S) Awards Grand Prize (Design Category) from AAEES.
The project included the addition of 500,000 gallons per day of wastewater treatment capacity by the construction of a third sequencing batch reactor (SBR) tank, expansion of the equipment and controls building, addition of a 1,500-kilowatt emergency generator and a new electrical service with associated electrical switchgear and transformer. The project design met the needs of the LTMUA’s service area, permitting ongoing development and economic growth.
The webinar outlined RVE’s approach to several design challenges, including addressing the site’s environmental concerns through communication and collaboration with the NJDEP. Mr. Czekanski also discussed the originality and innovation of the SBR tank design as well as the process for completing construction while minimizing equipment downtime.
