RVE Named Top 50 Trenchless Technology Engineering Firm for Second Consecutive Year

RVE was recently recognized for the second year in a row as one of North America’s Top 50 Trenchless Engineering firms by Trenchless Technology Magazine. The list was released in the publication’s December 2021 issue. RVE is an innovator in the field of water and wastewater distribution and collection system design and support services, and we have developed effective long-range planning tools for water and wastewater systems. Our staff are experts in trenchless technology design and construction methods including horizontal directional drilling (HDD), jack and bore, pipe bursting, cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) and microtunneling.

In a recent project that employed trenchless technology solutions, RVE was retained by the Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) to investigate and design two crossings under the Passaic River. The river crossing includes three 24″ HDPE and two 16″ HDPE water mains. Due to the presence of bedrock in some of the bore locations, specialized drill bits were required for the bore holes. In addition, differential in grade elevations between the western and eastern banks of the river required very deep bore holes.

Considerations for pipe material and pull back strength were critical for the proper alignment and installation of the new water main. Due to the dense urban setting, multiple temporary and permanent construction easements were required. Proper HDD calculations were required to correctly identify the properties where entry and exit pits would be located.
