New Fire Department Facility
About The Project
RVE provided professional design engineering services to the City of Absecon for the construction of a new fire department facility at 544 New Jersey Avenue. The facility totals 15,892 square feet and includes a new apparatus bay; modernized areas for administration, operations, and training; provisions for future living quarters and a detached garage for auxiliary vehicles, equipment, and maintenance. RVE provided design services for all site, environmental, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems. Throughout the design process, RVE worked continuously with City officials and the Absecon Fire Department to develop a cost-effective facility. RVE also performed survey and environmental assessments for land acquisition, secured all necessary permits and approvals for the project, coordinated the public bidding process, provided professional services for the demolition of existing structures at the site, and provided full-time onsite construction management services, along with contract administration and engineering support. During construction, RVE provided engineering support to mitigate delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. RVE took the lead in navigating these unique circumstances and delivered a quality project for the City of Absecon, the Absecon Fire Department and surrounding community. The new Fire Department Facility was completed and operational in January 2021.

Because the new firehouse site was irregularly shaped with unique topography, RVE utilized creative design techniques to meet stormwater management standards, including the capture of off-site stormwater runoff from County roads to reduce peak flows.
The design developed by the RVE team took advantage of the dual street frontages by providing a pull-through apparatus bay with access to both County roads in order to improve emergency response time.
To expedite the project schedule, RVE completed the entire design process in less than five months.
RVE worked with the neighboring American Legion organization to reconfigure their parking lot as part of the new firehouse project in order to provide proper site layout and circulation for both properties.
